Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an infection of the gums and tissues surrounding your teeth. It usually starts as mild inflammation (gingivitis) but can progress to more serious conditions (periodontitis) if left untreated.

Early Signs of Gum Disease

Spotting gum disease in its early stages is key to effective treatment. Look out for these warning signs:

• Red, swollen, or tender gums
• Bleeding while brushing or flossing
• Persistent bad breath (halitosis)
• Gum recession (teeth appearing longer)
• Loose or shifting teeth

Causes of Gum Disease
