(Late) Dr. John Lalremsiama Sailo Ryntathiang was a man of exceptional intelligence, fortitude, and compassion. Born on 10th October, 1951, at Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital in Shillong, he was the eldest and only son of Captain Lalrinthanga Sailo and Kong Dicky Ryntathiang. As the son of an Indian Army officer, Dr. Sailo's childhood was characterized by constant movement, taking him to remote districts such as Tuensang, Nagaland and Subansiri, Lohit (formerly Mishmi Hills district), among others.
Dr. Sailo's academic prowess was evident early on in his life. He pursued his passion for medicine and graduated from the esteemed Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and completed his internship in January 1976. Fondly known as Dr. Sailo, he then joined the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi, as a Junior Resident doctor in the Pediatrics department and the ENT department in 1976-1977. Dr. Sailo's dedication and commitment to the field of medicine led him to join the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, as a Medical Officer in 1979.
