Woodland Hospital is a Multi-Specialty Hospital situated at the heart of the city at Dhankheti, Shillong which was established in 21st March 1991 as a Proprietary concern. Considering the paucity of standard medical facilities available in the state, Dr. W. Kharshiing and his wife Mrs. Margret Wahlang decided to start a Nursing Home offering better alternatives to the patients of the medically deficient state. It was such a dream that few may have been imagined to see in its present form.
The hospital was started with 28 Indoor beds, two Operation Theatres viz; One Major & One Minor, along with the very basic Diagnostic facilities likes: Pathology, X-Ray, Ultra-Sonography etc. The Departments were limited to General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and ENT. During the year 1994, the hospital was expanded to 56 bed capacity. The New Operation Theatre Complex, a CT Scan Machine and four bedded Intensive Care Unit were also added to meet the increasing demands of the people. The CT scan was the first one the State had ever seen in1995.
